1.  What can you tell me about the cave paintings at Lascaux?  What subject matter was painted?  What materials and techniques were probably used?  What are some of the theories about the purpose of these paintings?  What evidence (from the images themselves or the caves or what has been found in them) would support these theories?

2.  Discuss the possible meanings and functions of the "Venus" figures of Paleolithic Europe.  What evidence (from their physical appearance, their location, or the objects found with them) points to these meanings or functions?

3.  What functions might Stonehenge have possibly served?  What evidence points to these possible functions?  How might these functions relate to the Neolithic people's way of life?  Using the terms "henge," "sarsen circle," "bluestone horseshoe," "trilithon," and "heel stone,"  and "barrows", describe the basic arrangement/organization of Stonehenge.  What construction techniques were possibly employed at Stonehenge?
