1.  What are some of the art forms created for the Chinese kings and later emperors? How were these forms used? What was the concept of the Mandate of Heaven and how did this influence the perception and role of the Chinese kings and emperors?  What materials were used by the powerful and why were these materials/media special? 

2. Explain what you have learned about Chinese traditional painting--goals, philosophy, and symbolism from Dongfeng Li's talk, using Fan Kuan's Traveler's Among Mountains and Streams as a reference point (see your power point on Chinese art on course reserve for this painting).

3. Which of the following most closely parallels the form and function of Shi Huang Di's Tomb? (Explain your choice in your answer, including a specific explanation for each one that you eliminated) Stonehenge, the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan, Temple I at Tikal, or Serpent Mound in Ohio?
