2.  Compare and contrast Jean-Honore Fragonard's The Swing with Millet's The Gleaners.  How does each painting reflect the values and needs of the audience for which it was created?  What different views of women does each convey?  What style/period is represented by each work?

3.  Discuss the different views of war portrayed in David’s Oath of the Horatii and Goya’s Disasters of War series andThe Executions of the Third of May, 1808.  How do these works reflect the historical times in which they were created?  In what ways was each of these artists involved in the current events of their times?  With which artistic style/period is each artist associated?

4.  Explain how the Romantic idea of the sublime is reflected in the work of Gericaut, Delacroix, and Goya.  Discuss at least one example from each artist's work, specifically explaining how each work incorporates the sublime.
