International Exhibit Review
Due: Before December 2
Please select one of the international contemporary art exhibits from
those listed on the museums and exhibits page (link from the first page
of the course webpage). These are listed under "International
Exhibits" and include the Venice
Biennale, Documenta (note that artists' internet projects for this
exhibit are listed separately on their website's first page under
"links"), the Sao
Paulo Biennale, Johannesburg Biennale, the Sharjah Biennale, the
Asia-Pacific Triennial, the Istanbul Biennial, the Taipei Biennial, the
Havanah Biennial, and the Prague Biennial.
Visit the
exhibit's website. Read about the history and current practices
of the exhibit, while also looking at the art shown (note that works
may be found under "countries exhibited" or "artists"--you will have to
do a bit of "surfing" of the exhibits' sites). Write a typed
review/analysis (approximately no more than two pages in length) of two works of art by
different artists from
one exhibit, including
the following information:
Exhibit:
Where is the exhibit held?
Which countries are represented in this exhibit?
How are artists chosen?
How often is this exhibit held?
When was this exhibit started?
Artists:
Where is this artist from?
Where do they currently live/work?
What drew you to their work?
What issues from class are relevant to this artist's work?
Does this artist's work remind you of any other artists' work you
know? In what ways?
