Journal Assignment


For this assignment you will visit the Camden-Carroll library's periodical section and have the opportunity to browse current journals to see what is happening in the world in art today!  The periodical section is located to the left of the main desk (through the glass doors and an intermediary room).  There you will find the most recent editions of the following journals:

American Craft
Art Education
Art in America
Art Journal
Art on Paper
Artforum International
Art News
Ceramics Monthly
Graphis
Juxtapoz
Print
Studies in Art Education

Guidelines for the assignment:

1.  The article you select must be on contemporary art (some of the journals listed cover a range of time periods, some have "how to" sorts of articles, etc., so make certain that your article is relevant to the content of this course).  Select an article from the journals listed above.

2.  The article you select must be an article, ie. not a paragraph describing one work. 

3.  The article must be from this year:  January 2010 -December 2010.

4.  You must attach a copy of the article to your paper.

5.  Your paper should be no more than 2  pages, double spaced, typed and should do the following:

    Give a brief overview of the significant points made or information contained within the article. 

    Give your perspective on that information, ie.   What did you learn?  What surprised you?  What did you find difficult to agree with or to
         understand?  What drew you to this article? 

    Relate what you learned from reading the article to what we have been studying in class, ie. Does the subject of this article relate to issues and/or
        artists we have discussed?

    Share what you learned from your article in class in a five-minute presentation on December 9th or 10th (this is worth an additional 10% of your grade).
